Instructions contained in the BootROM for initializing the startup process and keeping system configuration information. Much can be done via zapping the PRAM
Accessing Open Firmware
Hold down Command+Option+O+F at system startup - not at restart.

| eject cd | Ejects a stuck CD |
| reset-all | Resets the computer to defaults. |
| reset-nvram | Resets non-volatile RAM to default settings. |
| mac-boot | Continue the boot process. |
| shut-down | Shutdown the system. |
| bye | Exit Open Firmware. |
